From a shoot pairing Mia Love and Melissa Troutt from the winter of 2013. Always tricky to pose a model with dark hair on a black background for black and white. Even more so with two models with dark hair. I wish I’d had a bit more light on the hair of both models for this.
Happy Memorial Day to US readers. This photo comes from my backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon last fall. You see an image of the Colorado River taken from the Silver Bridge that connects the two banks of the river. I took this around mid-morning as I began my climb after a night at the Bright Angel Campground to Indian Garden Campground. It and the nearby Black Bridge provide the only crossings of the river for several hundred miles. The bridge runs around sixty feet above the river (I never could find an actual height) with a metal grate flooring allowing you to look down at the river below. Looking down also shows a water pipe, the trans-canyon pipeline, which provides the water supply for the entire tourist area on the South Rim. There are several places along the Bright Angel Trail where the pipeline is again visible above ground.
From an experiment in a shoot with Cat Hedlund early in 2013. In this shoot I used both a white and red color light sources and light painted her. The white on her body and using the red light to accent her red hair. My favorite shot from trying to mix the colors. It’s an idea I’ve just not found a real use for since though.

From my first shoot with Hannah Perez that included me slipping on a rock and pulling my groin and being caught in a nasty thunderstorm. Before those two problems though we did some great work that day. One part of the day came as we tried to capture her hair in motion. We never quite got it perfectly, but here is perhaps the best result of the attempt.
